Membership
What Does Church Membership Mean?
Even though “membership” isn’t required to worship and participate in the life of our church, there’s nothing like being part of a committed Christian community. For us, that’s essentially what “membership” is all about. It’s a commitment to growing alongside fellow Christians in an environment of love, service, sacrifice, and praise.
How Can I Join?
As Baptists, we believe that affiliating with the church is a public decision. That is why we always extend an invitation to those who are interested in becoming a part of our church family during our 11:00am worship each week. You are encouraged to come forward as we sing the invitational hymn and become a member of FBC Dunn in one of the following ways:
Profession of Faith and Baptism: This is when a person is making their first public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This does not necessarily mean that you are just becoming a believer at the time, but that you are now making your decision public, requesting baptism and membership.
Transfer of Letter: This is just a fancy way of saying that you’re already a member of another church, and that you’re simply wanting to move your membership to our church. We understand and recognize that not all churches have “membership” and that you may just simply be joining our church without an official transfer.
Statement of Christian Faith: This option is for those who are neither making a first-time profession of faith OR coming from another church. New members in this category are simply saying, “I’m not a new Christian, and I don’t have a current church membership but I want to be a member of this church.”
Do I Need to Talk to Anybody Before Joining?
Joining a church is a big, exciting decision! That’s why we encourage everyone to meet with our Pastor in order to chat more about what this decision means for you, your faith, and the church. This is also a good time to get answers to any specific questions you have about our church and your place in it.
Is There a New Member Class?
Twice a year, we offer a three-week course on Sunday mornings called “FBC 101” where we try to walk new and prospective members through what it means to be part of the Body of Christ and, more specifically, our church. We’ll walk you through the history of FBC Dunn, the different ministries/missions we support, and the expectations that come with membership. Most importantly, we’ll explain more about our mission and vision so that you can better know who we are, where we’re going, and how you fit in.
FBC 101 classes in 2025 will be held on the following Sundays at 9:30am in the Fellowship Hall. If you’re interested in attending, please contact Rev. Tyler Ward (tyler@fbcdunn.com)
